Spring 2017

Fall 2017

  • September 1, 2017: Brownbag--General introductions and brainstorming
  • October 6, 2017: Brownbag--Discussion of Big Hunger: The Unholy Alliance between Corporate America and Anti-Hunger Groups (the OSU library has online access)
  • October 12, 2017, 5:30 to 8 PM: Potluck social at Four Points Farm
  • November 3, 2017: Brownbag--Staff from the new food and resource center, Our Daily Bread, will talk to the group about the new center, including their experiences after running it for two months, their plans for the future, and how the Food Studies group might be able to help.
  • December 1, 2017: Brownbag--Rodney Holcomb from OSU's Food and Agricultural Products Center (FAPC) will come to chat with us about how FAPC helps small food producers and processors.

Spring 2018

  • Friday, January 26, 2018: Tour of Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center -- meet at FAPC, corner of Farm and Monroe on campus at 11:50, for a noon tour. May take 90 minutes.
  • Friday, March 2, 2018: Anna Zeide on her new book from University of California Press, Canned: The Rise and Fall of Consumer Confidence in the American Food Industry. The talk will be held at Noble Research Center 108 at 2:30 PM.
  • Wednesday, April 4, 2018Virtual visit with author Jonathan Safran Foer on Eating Animals (reading will be pre-circulated). NOTE TIME and LOCATION: 11 am - 12 pm in Classroom Building 302. 
  • Wednesday, May 9, 2018: 11:30 AM to 1 PM, Hal Smith Demonstration Classroom in Human Sciences. Chef Tiffany Poe, Director of Culinary Operations, Executive Chef and Clinical Instructor at the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management will be giiving a cooking demonstration for us and talking about 2018 food trends.

Fall 2018

  • September 7, 2018: Brownbag--General introductions and brainstorming ideas for local food festival
  • October 5, 2018: Brownbag--Colby Bennett, owner of Blue Spruce gelato and sorbet, will share his experiences with permaculture and his work to build a garden at Our Daily Bread Food and Resource Center 
  • November 8, 2018: Group visit to Food Product Innovation Competition, 1:30-4:30 pm, Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Processing Center
  • December 8, 2018: Closing event at Bailey Norwood's house

Fall 2019

  • Thursday, September 5. 12-1 pm: Welcome, and virtual discussion with Megan Elias of Boston University, which has the country's oldest Food Studies program. 
  • Friday, October 4. 11am-12 pm: Chef Jeff Denton of TS Fork, a new restaurant in Stillwater with a pre-fixe menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients. 
  • Friday, November 8. 11am-12 pm: Misha Manuchehri, Assistant Professor and Weed Science Extension Specialist, on pesticide controversies. 
  • Sunday, December 8. 5pm-7:30pm: End of Semester Dinner Party at Kathy Sandefur's house
